August Edition, 2018 Banner for eNewsletter

Hi there,

A big thank you to everyone who completed my 30 Second Electorate survey. If you took the survey, then you may have already received an email from me with a link to the results from the survey. I hope you found them as interesting and insightful as I did. If you didn't complete the survey, you can still check out the results here.

By completing my survey you help me gain a better understanding of what matters to you the most. Remember that you can always reach out to me by sending an email or calling my office. I'm always keen to hear what you have to say.

On the 10th of August there was a tragic accident at the corner of Hudson Road and the Albion Overpass. Following the incident, some people raised your concerns to me about this trouble spot. Councillor David McLachlan, Trevor Evans MP, and I have been in contact and are waiting for the police report. An urgent review of the intersection is needed so that safety measures can be put in place for the safety of all users. If anyone would like to give me details of recent experiences at this intersection or any other locations, please email me at clayfield@parliament.qld.gov.au.

You may have also heard about the State Government and Geon Property's 20 & 30 storey tower proposal, which if approvedm will drastically change the Albion train station precinct. While the train station redevelopment may be much needed, there are a few add-ons to this project which may be short-sighted.

The major concerns I've heard have been about the height of the two residential towers along with traffic and parking problems. I'll be bringing these points up with the developers during the consultation stage of the proposal, but if you have any of your own concerns, or have a different opinion about the development, please email me.

Best wishes,

Tim Nicholls MP

Thumbs up for great prizes! I donated a Weber BabyQ to the to Hendra State School Open Day and it was picked up by this lucky duo.

There's a lucky dad from the Kitchener Road Children's Centre who won my special Father's Day Hamper! Hope everyone had an awesome day getting spoilt or doing the spoiling.
Last month I visited the WWILD - SVP Association in Wooloowin to present my $200 Clayfield Community Grant. WWILD have already purchased screen printing equipment using the funds and have glammed up their aprons (as shown in the photo). I even got to learn to dance the 'Macarena' - watch the video here
Gasworks has transformed incredibly in recent years and is now the home to Australia's first luxury, 19 storey retirement and aged care community. I was joined by Trevor Evans MP, at the opening of Aveo Newstead and was impressed by the state of the art facility.
Last month, a new aged care facility also opened up in Lutwyche. The Regis Aged Care facility located on Perry Street has 135 rooms, and offers care services tailored to dementia-specific, palliative and respite needs. Councillor Fiona King & I got to see all that this facility has to offer to residents and their families.
This year's Kalinga Dash was another outstanding event which brought our community together in a healthy & vibrant environment. Trevor Evans MP, Cr David McLachlan and I had a terrific time presenting the awards.
The second annual GingerCloud Foundation Fundraising Lunch in support of the Modified Rugby Program (MRP) was another success. The fundraising event raised over $60,900 for the MRP community! Well done and thank you again for inviting me.

Last month, Kedron State High School's instrumental music students were on the road for their 'Way Out West' Tour. They launched their tour on 9th of August, and travelled all across Western QLD entertaining the locals and raising much needed money for the Drought Angels. Keep up the great work!
Windsor & District Historical Society was delighted to welcome Sallyanne Atkinson AO as the guest speaker for their general meeting in August. It was inspiring to hear Sallyanne's story - who was the first woman to hold the position of Lord Mayor of Brisbane (1985-1991).
The annual Italian Chamber of Commerce & Industry Gala Dinner showcased the strong ties between Australian and Italian small businesses. I back local businesses because they really are the backbone of our economy.
Although Wilston is outside of my electorate, I was more than happy to visit the Wilston Scouts, alongside Trevor Evans MP, to present the group with a Queensland flag.
