Message from Tim

Hi Calum,

I hope you've been enjoying the cooler weather and trust that you've had a great first half of 2018!

Queensland Day was early last month, and while there was a slight mishap with the State of Origin Game I loss, it was still a great day as we celebrated all the best things about our state. On my Facebook page I shared a few photos of the electorate, some from over 100 years ago! It's amazing to see how much our area has changed and grown. Just imagine what it'll look like in 100 years time!

You may have already heard my State Budget reply speech but if you haven't, you can watch it here.

Overall, it was a disappointing Budget which will see our state's debt continue to grow at an alarming rate. It also falls short in fixing up the mess that Labor has created in our public services, from the Rail Fail to healthcare. There is no economic outlook shown in the Budget Papers and so it leaves Queensland to flounder. The only thing that Labor can think to do is tax Queenslanders more. Whether you're having a punt at the races, or paying tax on land you own, the State Government will be after you to fill their coffers more and more!

A local issue which means a lot to me and our community has again been overlooked by the State Government. Regardless of how vocal Kedron State High School has been about needing a new performance hall, the Labor government yet again failed to provide where it's needed most. I will continue to fight until this performance hall is delivered for our students.

However amidst the disappointing news, our community was successful in securing $5.7 million to fund Stages 2, 3 & 4 of the North Brisbane Bikeway. It was pleasing to see as I have been pushing for the delivery of this project for a long while now. I will continue to press the Government to ensure they complete the State section of the bikeway. This is vital infrastructure which needs to be delivered with urgent priority.

Wishing everyone a safe and happy school holidays!

Best wishes,

Tim Nicholls MP

Bikeway Survey Results

Before the Budget was handed down, I published a survey to get your opinions about the North Brisbane Bikeway. Thank you to everyone who answered the questions - the results were very insightful and encouraging.

The results (based on the surveys completed by Clayfield electorate residents only) reveals that a majority agrees with me that the bikeway is a good idea for our area and further still, 88% of you said that you'd ride a bike once the State Government section is completed. It's great to know that our community both want the bikeway built and are also keen to use it!

Some very important concerns about the project were also raised, with safety being the predominant concern. Safety for everyone is always the utmost priority and I will make sure to voice your concerns throughout the construction process.

My Mobile Office is the most convenient way for you to raise your concerns about any local issue directly to me. Meeting with Metro North Wilderness Society - 31/5

Picture of Tim Nicholls MP and members of the Metro North Wilderness Soc.

Members of the Metro North Wilderness Society came by my office to talk about protecting our environment. While we don't quite agree on everything, they were pleased with my green bags and were happy to take some home. I've still got some reusable green bags available so if you haven't picked yours up, then make sure you visit my office.

State of Origin - 6 June & 24 June

Unfortunately the Blues were too good for us this year (with the help of a few referee decisions!), but that doesn't mean our spirit is damaged. There is always next year, and a game on July 11 at Suncorp Stadium to get a bit of our own back! We are still proud of our boys! #QLDERS

Visit to iOrthotics - 7 June

Recently I was joined by Deb Frecklington MP and Trevor Evans MP to celebrate the expansion of iOrthotics, a local business in Windsor. iOrthotics is the leading specialist for custom made orthotic devices, using new 3D printing technology. It was fantastic to hear that they have secured further funding of almost $200K from the Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre. Incredible innovation happening right here in the electorate!

State of Origin Jersey Winner

A massive congratulations to Jodie Moore who won my 'Best thing about Queensland Competition'! Her response particularly caught me attention and I think it is a solid mantra all of us should get behind!

"Queensland has been and always will be one big community who looks out for their own and others when help is needed. Our fighting spirit keeps us strong" - Jodie Moore

Thank you to everyone who entered the competition, there were some answers which were absolute gems.
