This election your vote will help shape Australia. It's up to you what you want to see for the future of this country.
Below you will find information about the 2019 Federal Election, including where you can pre-poll and vote on Election Day.
As many of you know, Trevor Evans MP is our hardworking Federal Member for Brisbane. Among many great achievements, Trevor has been active in securing much needed grants for local community groups in Clayfield. Congratulations to The Community Place in Wooloowin and Clayfield Girl Guides who have recently received Federal grants to help them continue their amazing volunteer work.
You may have read about last week's incident in Yabba St and the car theft in Kitchener Rd, Ascot. Thankfully no one was injured. I have spoken to our local Hendra Police Crime Prevention Officer and the Officer in Charge at Hendra. They report there is no “spike” in local crime. Several repeat offenders have been arrested in recent weeks.
Hendra CIB is continuing its investigation along with the Property Unit. Police have a good description of the suspect and considerable effort is being made to catch the culprit.
Hendra Police are regularly on patrol throughout the district. Hendra Division cars and officers patrol when not tasked to other activities. While reports of crime happening locally are concerning, there isn’t a “crime wave” in our area according to our local police. We can each take sensible steps to help protect ourselves, our property and our neighbours.
You can also join our local neighbourhood watch teams to help keep crime low. Please contact my office or your local neighbourhood watch group for more information on how to join.

The Racecourse Road Festival of Lights launch was a fantastic way to see the new boulevard of beautiful tree lights along Racecourse Road for the first time. This amazing project, led by the Racecourse Road Business Group, was made possible thanks to the $150,000 federal funding secured by Trevor Evans MP and funding from the Brisbane City Council.
Delighted to welcome St Margarets' Year 10 legal studies students to Parliament House this morning. Thank you to Deb Frecklington MP for making a special appearance.
Celebrating the 90th anniversary of the election of Irene Longman to the Legislative Assembly of the Queensland Parliament.
Irene Longman - a Member of the the Country and Progressive National Party (a forerunner of the LNP - Liberal National Party) - was the first female member to be elected to the lower chamber. When Irene was first elected, Parliament didn't have any female toilets. Women were also never allowed to use the Parliamentary Dining Room and Irene had to eat her meals on the verandah. She paved the way for so many LNP women who have since had the honour of sitting in Parliament.
A fantastic turnout for 'Dogs on Patrol' event at Oriel Park. Thank you to the Ascot/Clayfield/Hendra Neighbourhood Watch team for organising a fun morning for the community and our furry friends while raising awareness for Neighbourhood Watch!
On Saturday 4th of May, I attended the 77th Anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea Commemorations at The Australian-American War Memorial, Newstead Park. I was joined by Trevor Evans MP and Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner.
It was an honour to be a part of the ANZAC Day Services across the Clayfield Electorate. On the 25th of April I attended the Cameron Rocks Dawn Service (pictured), Kalinga Park Gates Service, St Colomb's Church Service & Windsor Memorial Park Service.
New BCC Windsor Sports Park
The Brisbane City Council voted to resume 4 houses for a sports and community park in Windsor. The 4 flood-prone porperties at Windsor are 18 & 20 Cullen St and 29 & 45 Northey St. Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the extra land would be added to adjacent council-owned open space to create a sports and community park.
The park is part of the council’s $40 million spend on sporting precincts across the city.
Cameron Rocks Reserve Now Open
Located at the western end of the River Walk, the revitalised Cameron Rocks Reserve features new landscaping, lighting, shade shelters, a public barbecue and terrace steps to access the Brisbane River.
The project team has worked closely with the RSL throughout the construction of the upgrade to ensure Cameron Rocks Reserve remains a special place of remembrance with the relocated Hamilton War Memorial taking centre stage.
Clayfield Community Grants
Here are a few quick reminders police have asked me to pass on to help them and to keep you safe.
Lock doors. House, garage and cars, it doesn’t matter if you are at home or just popping down to the shops for a moment. Thieves strike when they see an opportunity, so don’t give them one.
Lock your car doors when you drive. Some cars lock automatically, but it’s a good practice to get in to. Most late model cars will automatically unlock the doors in a crash so don’t worry about that.
Don’t leave car keys, purses, wallets and mobile phones on the hall or kitchen table. It’s the first place they will get stolen from. Again, it’s too good an opportunity for the thieves to miss.
Park your car off street if you can. It’s much less vulnerable and one less target of opportunity for the crims. And of course, don’t leave valuables in your car.
Report any suspicious activity or non-urgent crime using Policelink on 131 444 or go to the website. If a crime is happening right now, of course dial 000.
